AEW recorded its lowest-ever viewership last week. International Champion, Will Ospreay just opened up on this issue.

Ospreay is one of AEW's biggest signings since the company started in 2019. After making a name for himself in NJPW with a series of amazing matches, The Aerial Assasin was finally All Elite. However, he isn't the only major star the company has signed in recent years. Mercedes Mone and Saraya both signed contracts with the Jacksonville-based promotion within the past year.

Despite the plethora of talent they have at their disposal, the company has been struggling with its viewership. In fact, last week, AEW Dynamite recorded its lowest viewership since its launch in October 2019.

During a recent interview with CBS Sport, Will Ospreay finally broke his silence on last week's terrible viewership statistics. He wasn't happy about the low ratings and said he wasn't the sort of person to ignore such a thing. The 31-year-old said he was confident that he and the others in the promotion would do everything to reverse this current predicament.

“It s**ks that it was such a low rating but it’s just motivating me and I’m sure it’s motivating others to try and think out of the box and come back swinging,” Ospreay said. “I’m not someone who ignores that type of s**t. I see it and I take note of it. I put it in the checkbook and I make sure whatever we do next week, we come back swinging. We shouldn’t ignore criticism or shy away from it. We’re still a five-year company and we’re still hitting the ropes with these things. For me, AEW still has lots of growing pains to go through.”

Welcoming the criticism, Ospreay also referenced WWE and how the global juggernaut was facing a similar situation five years back. The Stamford-based company completely turned things around and has the hottest product in the market currently. This gave inspiration to other promotions in the industry to strive in the pro wrestling business and come back from setbacks.

“If we look back five years to what WWE was doing, they were at a low. But the way they’re thriving right now is inspiring to everyone. It should be something to hit. We need to change the bar and see what we must do to change things up. Like I said, I’m not the type of person to shy away from it. I enjoy criticism,” he added.

Will Ospreay just suffered a personal loss

Apart from being one of the best professional wrestlers on the planet, Ospreay is also a family man. Sadly, the 31-year-old just lost one of his family members.

Will Ospreay took to social media recently to announce that his grandmother had passed away and paid a heartfelt tribute to her in an Instagram post. He was most upset that he couldn't make it back home because he was halfway across the world for work.

"Night before Dynamite & Collision tapings, I was given the unfortunate news that my Nanny Patsy had passed. Heart is completely broken that I’m on the other side of the planet & can’t be there for my beautiful mum & my grandad," wrote Will Ospreay.

Check out his full tribute in the post below:

It's unfortunate to hear about Will Ospreay's grandmother. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
