After competing in one of the biggest pay-per-view events of AEW, Stephanie Vaquer recently signed with WWE and made her in-ring debut last night at a Live Event in Mexico. Stephanie received mixed reactions from the wrestling world, however, a wrestling veteran bashed the fans for accusing Vaquer of not being loyal to All Elite Wrestling and applauded her decision to sign with TKO-led company.
Matt Morgan is the latest to comment on Stephanie Vaquer's WWE signing. Vaquer made a name for herself due to her antics in CMLL. She even won the Strong Women's Championship in NJPW. Given her rising popularity, she was added to Forbidden Door where he faced Mercedes Mone in a title vs. title match that was won by the latter in the end.
Following the match, it was reported that Vaquer was headed to WWE. This caused a lot of fans to take shots at her with many questioning her loyalty to AEW. Speaking on his Gigantic Pop podcast, Matt Morgan came to the defense of Stephanie Vaquer by saying that she was never booked as an AEW talent to begin with. He even applauded her for using her match with Mone to try out with Stamford-based company.
"One of them flubbed a few moves which is we've all been there. Lord knows I have. But at the same token, one was absolutely perfect with that match and God bless her [Stephanie Vaquer] for using that as a try out for WWE. I love it! That's her lifelong dream. She's there. So, for all you AEW marks going 'oh, she's not loyal' AEW never booked her as an AEW talent to begin with so stop saying they did. They did not."
The wrestling veteran continued:
"They booked her as a CMLL talent coming to Forbidden Door.... So, she came over, did the honors, lost her title in the process, and you're pi**ed at her for going to WWE aka the major leagues of pro wrestling? S**ew you all. You marks." [From 02:25 to 03:23]
Matt Morgan praised Stephanie Vaquer's look
Stephanie Vaquer has established herself as one of the very best in CMLL by defeating some of the biggest names in the company on her way to winning the CMLL World Women's Champion. Hence, during her match against Mercedes Mone, she was able to carry herself like a star and got over with the AEW fans.
Speaking on the same podcast, Matt Morgan praised Stephanie Vaquer for looking like she could legitimately beat somebody up. He even said that it made no sense that Mone was treated like the bigger star of the two.
"There's tons of talents that can wrestle lucha libre style, there's tons of talents that could do the high spots but there's very rare when you see a talent that looks like they can kick somebody's a** in a fight okay, male or female, and our girl look like she could whip your a** in a physical fight in a bar somewhere and there's just some like she just has so much more real like when you saw her in the ring with Mone it's like, 'wait, why is that one the bigger star than that one? That makes no sense at all.'" [From 01:49 to 02:24]
Vaquer made her WWE in-ring debut last night at a Live Event in Mexico, where she defeated one-half of current Women's Tag Team Champion Isla Dawn. It will be interesting to see if Stephanie Vaquer will be able to make the same impact in the Stamford-based company as she did in CMLL.
