Jake Hager recently left AEW after a four-year tenure. Following his departure from the company, he made some comments about former WWE Champion Chris Jericho. Fans have now reacted to Hager's divisive claim.
The former Jack Swagger joined All Elite Wrestling in 2019. He was part of Jericho's faction called The Inner Circle until 2022. Hager also worked with The Ocho when they were stablemates in the Jericho Appreciation Society. In May 2024, it was reported that the 42-year-old's contract with the Jacksonville-based promotion had expired, and he chose not to re-sign.
In a recent interview with No Shave Man Cave, the former WWE United States Champion lauded The Demo God. He felt that the AEW star had put over up-and-coming talents, unlike legends such as Triple H, The Undertaker, and Sting.
Pro wrestling fans on X/Twitter quickly reacted to Jake Hager's claim about Jericho. Some viewers agreed with the former AEW talent's opinion of the FTW Champion. Meanwhile, one fan pointed out that Hager was wrong about Sting.
"Not a Jericho fan at all but, solid point here," a user wrote.
"He's right about Jericho, but wrong about Sting. There are many ways to put people over besides letting them win," a fan wrote.
Some fans said Jericho had barely helped rising stars during his AEW run. Meanwhile, others questioned which performers had benefited from sharing the ring with the 53-year-old.
"Name someone that truly benefitted from being put over by Jericho. Beating him means exactly nothing," a user wrote.
"Jericho has put over multiple people & it has made zero difference to their career. He isn’t a draw. Beating him means nothing in 2024," a fan tweeted.
Chris Jericho comments on staying in touch with former colleagues from WWE
Chris Jericho became a massive name in WWE before inking a deal with AEW. During his time in the global juggernaut, he worked with numerous legends like John Cena, Shawn Michaels, Edge (Adam Copeland), and others.
In an interview on The Big Show with Rusic and Rose, Jericho was asked whether he was still in touch with his friends from WWE. He replied:
"It’s like being war buddies," Jericho said. "I talk to some of the guys from time to time. Not that there are any issues. You see them on the street or run into them at the airport, it’s the greatest reunion ever. They’re doing their thing, we’re doing our thing. We’re all in the business, we’re all making money, and all building pro wrestling as a whole."
The FTW Champion has been in the wrestling business for three decades. He has wrestled in several major promotions around the world and continues to thrive in All Elite Wrestling.
