WWE recently posted a huge Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) reference on their social media. The current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion was a part of the iconic The Shield stable alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins during his stint with the Stamford-based promotion.

The Shield is inarguably one of the greatest factions in the history of professional wrestling. The trio of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns debuted on the main roster at Survivor Series 2012 and dominated the promotion until their breakup in June 2014.

After the group separated, all three stars were pushed to the moon. Every member of The Shield went on to become a world champion in a very short amount of time. The trio reunited for a brief period in 2019 and competed at the Fastlane Premium Live Event. Their final in-ring outing took place at The Shield's Final Chapter PLE, which also proved to be Dean Ambrose's final match for the company. The former WWE Champion parted with the promotion and signed with AEW in 2019.

After his departure and subsequent signing to the Jacksonville-based promotion, WWE stopped mentioning Ambrose (now known as Jon Moxley). The Triple H-led company even omitted him from archive Shield footage, most notably during the Seth Rollins-Roman Reigns feud that often recalled their days in the stable. However, an interesting development took place recently.

WWE has uploaded the entire story of The Shield to its YouTube channel. The company's Twitter (X) account mentioned Ambrose's name while sharing the link to the video.

"Watch the iconic moments featuring The Shield—Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose—from their debut at Survivor Series 2012 to their implosion on RAW in June 2014. Over two hours? Believe that!" the post read.

It is interesting that WWE suddenly mentioned Ambrose after years of silence, especially amid the rumors of Roman Reigns' return as a babyface.

Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose) reveals what he wished for during his WWE run

The erstwhile Dean Ambrose signed with Tony Khan's All Elite Wrestling in 2019 after parting ways with the Stamford-based promotion. Additionally, he also became a member of the NJPW roster. The 38-year-old became the IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion in his debut match for the company.

Speaking on Sports Illustrated, Jon Moxley revealed he wanted to wrestle in Japan when he was performing for WWE. The current IWGP World Champion claimed that he had a ''connection with the audience'' in Japan.

“I always looked forward to those shows in Japan when I wrestled for WWE. I’d feel a connection with the audience. I understood them. They understood me. Sumo Hall is one of my favorite buildings in the world. I have a particular attachment to that building. It’s a very distinct look, and it’s set up differently. Instantly, I immediately felt like I was in the right place,” he said.

Jon Moxley claimed his maiden IWGP World Heavyweight Title at the Windy City Riot 2024 PPV, where he defeated Tetsuya Naito. The current AEW star will defend his title against Naito at the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
