It's been a few months since Mercedes Mone made her debut in AEW. However, a WWE legend has declared her run as a failure.
Eric Bischoff is the latest to comment on Mercedes Mone's run in AEW. The former Sasha Banks burst onto the scene in AEW emphatically, quickly winning the TBS Championship. She followed it up by defeating Stephanie Vaquer for the NJPW Strong Women's Championship at Forbidden Door making her a double champion.
Since then, she has been a dominant champion as no one has been able to dethrone her. Despite her success in the ring, Mone has received her fair share of criticism. Even Eric Bischoff had some harsh words to say about her.
Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff said that The CEO's run in AEW has been a disaster since Tony Khan doesn't know how to produce her properly. He further said that she was protected in WWE because she was surrounded by people who knew how to work around her weaknesses:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"Mercedes Mone is not old, she's relatively young, she was a massive star in WWE, massive, and she came to AEW and it's been an unmitigated disaster because of her creative and because Tony doesn't know how to produce her. In WWE she was protected because people understood what her strengths were, but more importantly, understood what her weakness were and they produced her accordingly."
Eric Bischoff continued to say that Tony Khan is clueless about the television industry and hence, he brought in a massive star and turned her into an "abject failure:"
"Because Tony Khan is clueless and he has zero experience and no feel or instinct whatsoever for the television industry, he brought this megastar in from WWE, who's not over-the-hill and old, who was an established superstar and, again, abject failure," Bischoff continued. "It's the creative and Tony's inability to produce compelling television." [H/T WrestlingInc.]
Mercedes Mone is set to make a huge appearance outside AEW
Mercedes Mone has established herself as one of the top female stars in the industry since her arrival at AEW. She has competed against some of the biggest names in the company and hence, Tony Khan is looking outside the company to find a suitable match for the CEO.
NJPW is hosting its Strong Style Evolved event which will feature several stars from AEW including Jack Perry, Konosuke Takeshita, and more. Even Mercedes is booked to compete on the show as she will defend her NJPW Strong Women's Championship against Hazuki.
It will be interesting to see if Mercedes Mone will be able to come out on top in her match against Hazuki.
