A WWE veteran has provided his own explanation behind Drew McIntyre taking down his controversial social media post featuring Jack Perry. The individual in question is Jim Cornette.

The wrestling internet landscape recently came unglued when CM Punk's current arch nemesis Drew McIntyre dropped a now-deleted picture of himself with AEW's Jack Perry on Instagram. The Scapegoat was involved in a backstage altercation with The Best in the World at All In 2023 towards the end of the latter's All Elite run. Punk was later terminated by Tony Khan, although he soon jumped ship to WWE, where he is presently locked in a bitter feud with The Scottish Warrior.

During a recent episode of his Drive Thru podcast, Jim Cornette commented on the photograph of Drew McIntyre and Jack Perry together, contrasting the physiques of the two wrestlers.

"And I love the titles and the memes they made out of it, because look at Drew McIntyre going out of his way to please this Make-A-Wish kid, because he's like a foot and a half taller and a hundred pounds heavier, so it looks like some guy taking his kid to f***ing grade school." [0:46 - 1:04]

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

The veteran further speculated that WWE had likely not forced Drew to delete the picture, suggesting instead that it was probably personnel from AEW who had reprimanded Perry for appearing in the photo. Cornette believed this prompted the latter to request McIntyre to take the post down.

"But I don't think anybody in WWE made Drew McIntyre take that down. I think it's somebody in AEW, probably called and yelled at Old Jungle Boy, 'Say, what the f*** are you doing, you're playing into their deal, helping them draw money when you can't draw any for us.' And he probably had to call Drew and say, 'Ah, can you take that down, I'm getting all kinds of heat,' because the WWE would have laughed at it." [1:05 - 1:36]

WWE Superstar CM Punk commented on AEW airing backstage footage from All In 2023

On Dynamite earlier this year, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson aired video footage of the backstage brawl between CM Punk and Jack Perry at AEW All In 2023. Although the decision to roll the tape was seemingly taken to set up Perry's return to All Elite programming, many have criticized the move for various reasons.

Former WWE Champion CM Punk spoke on the subject during a recent interview with the SI Media podcast. The Straight Edge Superstar claimed that broadcasting the All In footage was neither going to benefit AEW in the long run nor prove to be detrimental to his own career.

It remains to be seen whether CM Punk emerges victorious against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam 2024.
