WWE veteran recalls Vince McMahon's feelings about AEW star Buddy Matthews

Buddy Matthews (fka Buddy Murphy) is a 35-year-old professional wrestler signed to AEW. Furthermore, he is a member of the villainous stable, House of Black, alongside Julia Hart, Brody King, and Malakai Black.

Before joining AEW, Buddy Matthews spent years performing in WWE. His career in the Vince McMahon-founded company began in 2013, in NXT. There, he and Wesley Blake teamed up and had a favorable run by once becoming NXT Tag Team Champions. A few years later, he began featuring in the now-defunct 205 Live brand, where he held the WWE Cruiserweight Championship once.

Eventually, he competed on Raw and SmackDown and battled several top names in the company. Some of the highlights of his WWE run included his involvement in a Roman Reigns storyline and holding the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship with Seth Rollins. Unfortunately, he was released from his contract in the middle of June 2021.

Recently, former WWE Superstar Sylvain Grenier appeared on the JOFO in the RING Podcast and revealed that Vince McMahon had a liking for Matthews. However, he thought that things didn't work out for him because of a girl. Grenier said,

"I just met him and really smart, really savvy. He was a little short but he looked f*cking phenomenal and I think Vince liked him a lot. And I thought they were going to push the s*it outta them. But I think something happened with a girl, whatever."

In the aforementioned podcast, Grenier explained that Buddy Matthews was a great talent and had a lot to offer to WWE. Furthermore, he stated that he is glad that the 35-year-old is doing good for himself. He said,

"I thought he was a great talent. You know. I thought he was somebody I saw a spark of. The little glimpse I saw, its like woah this guy has something to offer. A month later, he was gone. Something like that so. But he's somewhere else now. Hopefully he is doing good and he's healthy."

Sylvain Grenier performed in WWE during the mid-2000s. Furthermore, he won the World Tag Team Championship multiple times.
