Mercedes Moné has been with AEW for just a few months, and she's already a double champion. Considered by many to be one of the most polarizing pro wrestlers, Moné has received a significant amount of criticism for her recent on-screen work, and some of her off-camera remarks. Now one WWE Legend is comparing her to current SmackDown Superstar Chelsea Green.
The former Sasha Banks of WWE defeated Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door 2024 to capture the NJPW Strong Women's Championship, while already holding the AEW TBS Championship, which she won in her debut match for the company. The 32-year-old recently received social media heat for comments she made about her former employer making it hard to do outside projects, and how Tony Khan has been the exact opposite.
The CEO's comments were heavily criticized online, even by many of her supporters. Speaking on his Story Time podcast, the legendary Dutch Mantell said he's never watched an interview by Moné and never had an inclination to until his co-host sent him the aforementioned comments on WWE. The former Zeb Colter accused Snoop Dogg's cousin of having an ego, seeing herself as bigger than AEW, and perhaps being manipulative to Khan.
Mantell also said pro wrestlers need to create interest, but Moné is creating disinterest by causing fans to turn the channel or just tune the product out when she's on. He then compared Mercedes to WWE's Chelsea Green.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"She does nothing. Now let's take a girl [like] Chelsea Green in WWE. I will watch her until the cows come home because she's entertaining, she's funny, she acts stupid, and I like that girl, anyway. But Moné doing all this stuff [mimics Moné's movements] and out there... I would actually pay to see Chelsea Green just beat the c**p out of Mercedes Moné [laughs]," Dutch Mantell said. Mercedes Moné and Chelsea Green have never wrestled each other. Mantell jokingly agreed when his co-host suggested they set up a GoFundMe campaign so that Green's husband Matt Cardona could make the showdown happen.
Big AEW All In match rumored for Mercedes Moné
Mercedes Moné appeared on this week's AEW Dynamite: Beach Break special for her Double Championship Celebration. The segment came just days after she defeated Stephanie Vaquer in a Winner Takes All match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
Britt Baker made her long-awaited return right after the Winner Takes All match, coming to the stage to staredown Mercedes as she celebrated with the AEW TBS Championship and the NJWP Strong Women's Championship. Baker was being interviewed by Tony Schiavone on Dynamite when The CEO arrived for her celebration.
Baker had called Mercedes out in the Schiavone interview, firing plenty of shots at the newcomer. They then came face-to-face in the middle of the ring, and Baker challenged the champion for a match at All In on August 25 in London.
Moné did not accept the challenge, but told Baker to get to the back of the line and earn a title shot. They had a few more words and Moné warned her to end the segment. AEW is expected to confirm Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Moné for All In, but it remains to be seen if this will be a singles bout or if something else is in store.
