Throughout the years, AEW has signed numerous ex-WWE superstars and successfully elevated their careers to new heights. Some of them are Jon Moxley, Samoa Joe, Saraya, Cody Rhodes, Claudio Castagnoli, Andrade, etc. Furthermore, if the rumors are true, the next big former WWE name to jump ship could be Shane McMahon, the son of the Stamford-based company's founder, Vince McMahon.
Rumors of Shane McMahon joining the Tony Khan-led company have been making rounds on the internet for quite a while now. However, they only got stronger when a photo of a meeting between the WWE World Cup winner and Tony Khan went viral. Reports suggest that the meeting was supposed to be private and the picture got leaked.
Interestingly, WWE veteran Dutch Mantell thinks that the picture was not leaked. He believes that AEW planned it all along and added that if Shane McMahon did show up in the Jacksonville-based promotion, he would start following its shows. The 74-year-old also said that if the company did not capitalize on the former WWF Hardcore Champion's signing, it would completely be their fault.
"I don't think it was leaked. I think it was planned all along because a guy just doesn't walk into a room with those two and all of a sudden, Hoooooh! And they were both looking at the camera, click. Gotchu now. I got you. And all of a sudden it hits the waves of the internet. But it did whatever it was supposed to do. Get people talking and if, say Shane did go into AEW, that would want to make me watch it. To see what they do. Because if they f*ck that up, it's their fault. But I don't think Shane would let them mess it up that bad. But I'd be interested to see what he would do," said Dutch Mantell. [4:44 - 5:32]
In the same conversation, Mantell said that AEW has to take their time with McMahon if he signs with them because if he is booked correctly, he could do wonders.
