The Owen Hart Cup Tournament is an annual event held in partnership with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and The Owen Hart Foundation. AEW President Tony Khan announced that there will be single-elimination tournaments for both men and women, with a winner crowned in each division. The winners from these tournaments will receive a trophy called "The Owen.”
This cup is named to tribute the legendary wrestler Owen Hart. Owen Hart became an 11-time world champion in his six-year wrestling career by competing in several prominent federations like World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), Stampede Wrestling, and the United States Wrestling Association (USWA).In 2019, he was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame (PWHF) in the Modern Era category.

In the first ever Owen Hart Cup men's tournament, 16 wrestlers competed for the title. Among them, eight advanced to the next round, including notable names like Samoa Joe, Johnny Elite, Rey Fénix, Kyle O'Reilly, Adam Cole, and Dax Harwood. In the semifinals, Samoa Joe defeated Kyle O'Reilly, while Adam Cole emerged victorious over Jeff Hardy. The final showdown took place at AEW Double or Nothing 2022, where Adam Cole faced off against Samoa Joe. After a hard-fought battle lasting 12 minutes and 30 seconds, Adam Cole emerged as the first ever winner of the Owen Hart Cup men's tournament.

In the inaugural Women's Owen Hart Cup Tournament, sixteen talented female superstars competed, mirroring the format of the men's event. In the first semifinal match, Toni Storm was defeated by Dr. Britt Baker. In the second semifinal match, Ruby Soho emerged victorious over Kris Statlander. In the finals, Dr. Britt Baker clinched the historic victory by defeating Ruby Soho, etching her name as the first-ever winner of the Women's Owen Hart Cup at AEW Double or Nothing 2022.

CM Punk, Satoshi Kojima, Dustin Rhodes, Powerhouse Hobbs, Ricky Starks, Juice Robinson, Roderick Strong, and Samoa Joe are the eight superstars who started competing with each other for the men's Owen Hart Cup Tournament 2023. Samoa Joe faced CM Punk in his second consecutive Owen Hart Cup semi final but fell short, thereby granting Punk a spot in the final.
