The year is coming to a close, and several AEW stars have stepped up and made names for themselves. But now, following Worlds End, all signs are pointed toward 2025, and who will lead the charge in this new year?
2024 has seen several breakout stars become champions, including Mariah May, Daniel Garcia, and Konosuke Takeshita. Other stars, like Swerve Strickland, have had their best year so far, with sudden rises to the top.
Now, with 2025 coming up, there is no shortage of things that could happen throughout the year. But there will surely now be new stars who will step up and take over the company. Here are some potential breakout stars to watch out for.
#1. Kyle Fletcher
Kyle Fletcher has been one of the bigger surprises this year, as he has emerged as a top singles competitor. He showed off during the Continental Classic, topping the Blue League and finishing within the top four of the tournament.
He has beaten Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, Shelton Benjamin, and Daniel Garcia and could go on to take down many more.
In 2025, the ProtoStar could continue his singles run to attain championship gold. As his comrade Konosuke Takeshita is the AEW International Champion, Fletcher could pursue any other titles available to bring gold to The Don Callis Family. His run this year has brought up his confidence, and he looks to be a force to be reckoned with heading into the new year.
#2. 'Hangman' Adam Page
'Hangman' Adam Page is one of the AEW stars who has given off main character energy, and fans have rallied by his side multiple times as he has gone on conquests to become the world champion.
Page has not held the title since early 2022 and has been gunning for it. After a series of chaos this year, he may be at his last straw. Despite taking down Swerve Strickland, he has yet to have still his goal of once more being at the top, and a more determined and unhinged Hangman might be someone who cannot be stopped.
After a series of losses last year, he could once more pick up the momentum, continue to push for a run for the title, and take down those in his way. This could set up another world title reign for him soon.
#3. Darby Allin saves AEW
Several members of the AEW locker room have stepped up to Jon Moxley and The Death Riders, but neither has been as consistent as Darby Allin. He has been willing to sacrifice his body to take them down, and the group has indeed considered him a threat.
On Rampage a few days ago, the group took him out and left him all bloodied up backstage. Should he finally recover from this, Darby could once more try to fight to earn another shot at the world title.
He was once a step away from becoming the world champion, but Moxley robbed him of this chance. 2025 could be the year that he gets another shot at the King and takes him down, bringing the title back to someone who could be the true face of the company. This would be him getting retribution on behalf of everyone who has fought by his side.
#4. Hologram
Only a few more AEW stars remain undefeated as the year comes to a close, and one of them is Hologram.
Following his debut back in July, he has already amassed a 15-0 record in all his matches with the company. He has been dealing with an injury, but should he make his return, the luchador could continue to extend his winning streak.
A flawless record like his is enough proof that he should be in a title scene, and he could begin runs for a championship such as the TNT Championship. He could be the one to dethrone Daniel Garcia. Currently, there is no telling who will be the one to give him his first loss.
#5 & 6. Julia Hart and Jamie Hayter
Two names on the roster who have made returns after a long hiatus are Julia Hart and Jamie Hayter. Hayter was out for over a year, while Hart's hiatus lasted just over seven months.
The two are now in a feud, and recently, the Princess of the Black Throne officially cemented her return by attacking the former AEW Women's World Champion. Seeing as they are two of the biggest names on the roster, this could be the start of a long-term feud between them. It would not make sense to have them put one over, as this would do wonders for the momentum they have right now.
This could end up being a feud that could stretch across the year, with both women getting wins over one another, but this never being enough to settle their rivalry. AEW could make them pursue separate individual endeavors but remain constantly aware that their rival is looking to screw them over at all times.
#7. Ricochet
Over the past few weeks, it seems that Ricochet has been going through several rough patches. He has found himself to be a disliked figure among the AEW crowd, and he has now been embarrassed by both the Hurt Syndicate and Swerve Strickland.
This could lead to him finally imploding and going full heel. This could generate heavy heat from the fans, similar to what Dominik Mysterio gets from the WWE Universe. His acting like a heel and becoming more ruthless may be what he needs for his career.
This may also bring the attention of The Hurt Syndicate back to him, and they could offer him a spot in their ranks. His ego may be the issue by that point, as he was already ridiculed by them in the past. 2025 may be the year that Ricochet goes down a dark path and gives him better traction moving forward.
A lot could happen in the year for AEW, and apart from these names, there could be other surprises in store for fans in 2025. Who knows which stars will have runs of their careers?
