AEW will conclude a massively successful year with its final pay-per-view, Worlds End 2024. The Tony Khan-led promotion prepares for the event with momentum generated by well-received and exciting shows taped at the Hammerstein Ballroom over the past weekend.
All Elite Wrestling has developed quite an interesting card for the upcoming pay-per-view, including several high-stakes matches contested for prized items, world championship, and the boast of being the winner of this year's Continental Classic, as the tournament's semifinal and final bouts are set to take place at the event on Saturday.
As such, let us try and predict the possible outcomes of the most important matches scheduled for AEW Worlds End 2024.
#1: MJF vs. Adam Cole for the Dynamite Diamond Ring
One year since Adam Cole turned on MJF at Worlds End 2023, the two men look to settle their score as they face off for Friedman's Dynamite Diamond Ring this Saturday.
The former tag partners had a bitter exchange of words on Christmas Collision last week, during which the Undisputed Kingdom member claimed he had played MJF's games of deception and betrayal better than him.
While Cole will surely be looking to avenge his friend Roderick Strong by taking out Friedman and putting an end to their rivalry, The Wolf of Wrestling could stay a step ahead of The Panama City Playboy this time and defeat the former WWE Superstar with an assist from Mike Bennett and Matt Taven, with the latter turning heel and aligning with MJF in a reversal of Worlds End last year. This could also open the door for Wardlow's possible return to the show.
Winner: MJF
#2: Mercedes Mone vs. Kris Statlander for the TBS Championship
Kris Statlander claimed earlier this year that things started going wrong for her since Mercedes Mone debuted in the promotion at Dynamite: Big Business. Besides her evident eagerness to make amends with her former friend and ally Willow Nightingale, the 29-year-old star will try to regain the TBS Title from The CEO at Worlds End, just over a month after failing at the task at Full Gear 2024.
On the other hand, Mercedes will continue her domination and further elevate her track record in AEW. The Boss has proven herself capable of doing whatever it takes to hold on to her gold and will likely march into 2025, still holding the TBS Championship after beating Statlander again.
Furthermore, a confrontation between Mone and Mina Shirakawa ahead of their Wrestle Dynasty 2025 bout may not be out of the question.
Winner: Mercedes Mone (c)
#3: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Powerhouse Hobbs for the International Championship
Powerhouse Hobbs returned from injury last month with a bone to pick with The Don Callis Family after The Invisible Hand supposedly disregarded him throughout his recovery. The former TNT Champion has been on the warpath against the villainous stable since then and set his sights on Konosuke Takeshita's International Title, which the two stars will lock horns over at Worlds End 2024.
While The Embodiment of Willpower will certainly come close to dethroning the Japanese phenomenon, The Alpha will likely retain against Hobbs this weekend. A win to close out the year would add to Takeshita's momentum heading into his Never Openweight Title match against Shingo Takagi at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19, where he could become a double champion.
Winner: Konosuke Takeshita (c)
#4: Mariah May vs. Thunder Rosa for the AEW Women's World Championship
Thunder Rosa has not minced her words regarding Mariah May and has questioned the latter's credibility as the reigning AEW Women's World Champion. What was initially just a quest for Le Mera Mera to regain the title she never lost became more personal after The Glamour made biting remarks about Rosa's family. This has heightened anticipation surrounding their Tijuana Street Fight for the belt set for Worlds End 2024.
Rosa undoubtedly deserves another run with the division's top prize - but May might defeat her on December 28 after a violent war to continue her ongoing program with Toni Storm. The former Timeless star could even appear at the event to stop The Fighting Princess from hurting Rosa post-match, laying the groundwork for a rematch between Storm and May next year.
Winner: Mariah May (c)
#5: Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Jay White vs. Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship
Jon Moxley and The Death Riders have waged war on the All Elite roster for the last few months. However, The One True King is faced with a seemingly insurmountable challenge, as he will defend his AEW World Title against three contenders - Orange Cassidy, Jay White, and Hangman Page - all of whom are keen to wrest away the belt from Moxley's grasp at Worlds End 2024.
Although the champion will be at a technical disadvantage, he could use the help of his stable-mates - provided the four-way match follows a no-disqualification stipulation - to tip the scales in his favor. Moxley thrives in chaotic, violent, multi-person bouts and will likely continue his reign of terror by retaining the World Championship. Fans speculate that this reign could end at the hands of Darby Allin or Christian Cage.
Winner: Jon Moxley (c)
#6: Continental Classic 2024 Semifinal 1: Kazuchika Okada vs. Ricochet
Regardless of his recent character transformation, Ricochet had an excellent run in the 2024 Continental Classic, picking up ten points. The One and Only will wrestle Blue League runner-up Kazuchika Okada in one of the two tournament semifinals.
Winning the C2 would go a long way towards legitimizing Ricochet's developing heel turn. However, The Rainmaker will probably affirm his reputation as an all-time-great tournament wrestler by beating the high-flyer and advancing to the finals.
Winner: Kazuchika Okada
#7: Continental Classic 2024 Semifinal 2: Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher
After betraying his long-time friend Will Ospreay at WrestleDream 2024, Kyle Fletcher asserted that he was not an equal to, but better than, The Aerial Assassin. The Protostar proved his claim by beating the Englishman at Full Gear last month.
The former United Empire stable-mates will again go to war in the second Continental Classic semifinal bout at Worlds End 2024. However, Ospreay will likely triumph over The Aussie Arrow and proceed to face an old rival in the finals.
Winner: Will Ospreay
#8: Continental Classic 2024 Finals: Kazuchika Okada vs. Will Ospreay
The last time Will Ospreay wrestled Kazuchika Okada in a tournament setting was in the 2023 G1 Climax, with The Commonwealth Kingpin coming out on top. The two former NJPW stars may run it back in a blockbuster final match in this year's Continental Classic at Worlds End.
While Ospreay could no doubt benefit from winning the 2024 C2, it is arguably Okada who needs it more, considering his somewhat underwhelming run as a top singles name this year. The 37-year-old could thus beat Ospreay to win the Continental Classic and retain his AEW Continental Title.
Okada's triumphant performance in the C2 could also lead to Kenny Omega's rumored return to AEW at Worlds End.
Winner: Kazuchika Okada
