AEW is stacked with talent, which leaves some stars with fewer opportunities. Two of them were Penta El Zero and Rey Fenix who reportedly thought their careers were not progressing in Tony Khan-led All Elite Wrestling amidst interest from WWE.

Earlier this year, rumors began to circulate about The Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero) potentially departing from AEW to sign with WWE. Penta recently left All Elite Wrestling and the teases of his WWE debut have seemingly begun on programming. However, Rey Fenix's situation is controversial as Tony Khan has reportedly added injury time to his contract which will keep him in AEW till 2025.

In a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Penta and Fenix were planning to leave All Elite Wrestling amidst interest from WWE. Tony Khan tried to keep both stars in the promotion but after knowing of their plans to move to their rival promotion, he decided to keep them off television.

"Tony Khan thought he could keep them by offering more money, which apparently he did, but they’d already made the call to go. When Tony Khan and others wanted to talk about renewing their deal they told the people in AEW to talk to their agent rather than them. At this point AEW knew they were gone and Khan made the decision not to use them on television." -WON

Eric Bischoff on Tony Khan keeping Rey Fenix in AEW

Rey Fenix was seemingly set to leave All Elite Wrestling with Penta El Zero. However, due to injury time added to his contract, the luchador will reportedly remain in the company till 2025. Many have bashed Tony Khan for keeping Rey Fenix in the promotion. But, Eric Bischoff seems to side with the All Elite Honcho.

In a recent edition of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff said he agrees with Tony Khan's decision to keep Rey Fenix as he's got a business to protect.

"For the most part, I would agree with Tony. He's got a business to protect, and when you invest a lot of money in talent and the talent isn't able to perform because of an injury, to me, it makes sense that you would add that time." [50:00-50:22]

We will have to wait and see if Tony Khan uses Rey Fenix in All Elite Wrestling after the recent controversy.
