AEW has made major strides throughout 2024 to bring its original vision of pro wrestling back to the forefront, but a major component is still lagging behind - the tag team division. Luckily, the promotion has reportedly signed a pair of rapidly rising stars, despite not giving them an official graphic.
Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd, together known as The Outrunners, have quickly become one of the most popular tag teams in the company. The duo is portrayed as a throwback act to the 1980s, with an energetic presentation and cheesy vignettes to match. While they are primarily active in ROH, they've been getting huge reactions from fans on AEW TV lately.
The Outrunners never received an All Elite Wrestling official graphic, but according to Fightful Select, they are under contract with Tony Khan's promotion. Fightful noted that AEW officials were very happy with the reactions Magnum and Floyd were receiving, and their current push was expected to continue.
AEW's Outrunners make hilarious claim about The Undertaker
The Outrunners don't just present themselves to be a throwback to 1980s wrestling, they claim to have actually wrestled in that era. Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd have paradoxically claimed to have competed in legendary Dallas territory WCCW while also maintaining that they are the "youngest men alive."
In a recent appearance on Talk is Jericho, Truth Magnum told a story about Mark Calaway, aka The Undertaker, in WCCW back in the day. He claimed that The Phenom had asked The Outrunners to watch his match against Tom Renesto Jr.
"Matter of fact, [The Undertaker] wanted us to watch one of his matches against Tom Renesto Jr., son of Tom Renesto Sr. He came back, and I was absolutely livid. I said, 'Mark,' which I found out later was his name... I said, 'Mark, it's a good thing you're walking around like a zombie because this town is officially dead!' Then Turbo flung a cucumber at his head, and the rest is history," Truth Magnum said.
The Outrunners are quickly rising up the card despite recently losing out on their shot against the AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks. Whether the two can continue to build on their popularity remains to be seen.
