AEW is expected to undergo major change. This will take place after the company's rumored deal with WBD.
Ever since its inception, AEW has been part of the Warner Bros. Discovery family. The company has come a long way in the past five years in terms of its roster size and production value. While they have increased their spending to improve the product, the company has still struggled to sell tickets for its weekly shows. This coupled with poor viewership seemed like the company wouldn't be able to renew its deal with WBD.
However, the deal with WBD is expected to be finalized any time soon and even Tony Khan has commented on this in the past. But this deal will reportedly bring about a massive change.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio is stating that the company's deal with WBD is almost as good as done. He further speculated that the number of AEW PPVs could double as a result of this new deal with WBD gaining the rights to these shows:
“The WBD deal is a done deal. There is going to be a pay-per-view component in this deal. If they’re doubling the number and WBD is getting the rights to the pay-per-view, I could see that makes doubling the number make more sense in a lot of ways,” Meltzer said.
Meltzer further commented that the company's PPVs will be integrated into HBO Max which would allow users to stream them similar to WWE and UFC's model:
“I don’t know exactly if it’s going to be how UFC does it, if it’s going to be how WWE does it, but there is going to be a deal with (HBO) Max with the pay-per-views in some form,” Meltzer added.
Dutch Mantell feels AEW President Tony Khan may have made a big decision regarding Jon Moxley's recent promos
After returning from his hiatus, Jon Moxley has turned a lot of heads with his words and actions. After betraying Bryan Danielson at All Out, Moxley cut a promo this week on Dynamite. He also came face-to-face with Darby Allin in the ring.
Speaking on his Story Time with Dutch Mantell, the former WWE manager claimed that AEW hired writers to write Jon Moxley's promos in recent weeks since it was well written:
"The first thing that hit me was somebody is [sic] writing their stuff now 'cause it went a minute and a half at least, the one in the back, may have went a little longer. I don't think he's [Jon Moxley] that good to pull it at the top of his head. Maybe, but it was well-written. But, better than that, it was well-delivered and it didn't have that hollering and screaming because he's 'Mr. Seriousness'. So, when he did that interview and the way he did it, I think was very well-executed, and my hats off to him." [1:00:00 - 1:00:50]
Jon Moxley has looked more dangerous ever since his return and it remains to be seen when he will face Bryan Danielson in the ring.
