Mercedes Mone has had an outstanding year in AEW in 2024. There has been speculation for quite some time that she had some level of creative control in the Jacksonville-based company. Now, the latest reports have clarified whether the current AEW TBS Champion does indeed have creative control over her booking.
Mercedes Mone made her All Elite Wrestling debut in March earlier this year. She is rumored to be the highest-paid female wrestler in the world according to her current contract. Mone has been the TBS Champion ever since she won it in her AEW in-ring debut at Double or Nothing 2024 by defeating Willow Nightingale.
Mercedes has successfully retained her title by overcoming every challenger she faced since winning the title. Fans have been speculating that she might have creative control in the company as well. The rumors earlier this year also noted that The CEO has total creative control over her booking in Tony Khan's promotion.
Nevertheless, a recent report has clarified the rumors regarding Mone perhaps having creative influence in AEW. During Fightful Select's Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked whether Mercedes Mone actually had any creative control and he answered that she had reasonable influence but not creative control:
“No, not really, I think it’s just reasonable influence with her saying, ‘Oh, I think this would be cool,’ but I don’t think creative control,” Sapp said. [H/T - Ringside News]
Mercedes Mone is set for a double-title match this Sunday
Mercedes Mone successfully defended her TBS Championship against Kris Statlander at AEW Worlds End 2024 and will continue her reign going into 2025. The CEO has also been the NJPW Strong Women's Champion since Forbidden Door 2024.
This Sunday, at the Wrestle Dynasty event at Tokyo Dome, Mercedes will defend her NJPW Strong Women's Championship against the AEW performer and Japanese star, Mina Shirakawa. Mina would also put her RevPro Women's Title on the line.
It remains to be seen if The CEO manages to capture the RevPro Women's Title from Shirakawa and becomes a triple champion next.
