Swerve Strickland recently leaked a major rumor about AEW's deal with FOX. New details have come to light regarding how this was perceived backstage in the company.
This year, AEW has seen a lot of ups and downs. On one hand, the company saw a drop in viewership and has been struggling to sell out arenas for its weekly shows. On the other hand, the Jacksonville-based promotion is about to finalize its deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.
Amid this, rumors of All Elite Wrestling launching a new show on FOX are making the rounds. This became more evident when Swerve accidentally confirmed the young company's deal with FOX, which was caught in a video posted on QueenzFlip's YouTube channel.
Fightful Select is now reporting that this leak by Swerve was accidental as he was not aware that there was a camera filming him. It is also reported that people in AEW didn't want this information to get out.
Swerve Strickland regrets his accidental comment about AEW
Once Swerve Strickland was caught on camera talking about AEW's deal with FOX, it confirmed the rumors about the company's new show called Shockwave. But how does Swerve feel about his slip-up?
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select recently said that Swerve didn't intentionally comment on AEW's deal with FOX and he wishes he could take it back.
"He wishes he could take it back. That was not intentionally leaked. I'm told that he did not know that a phone was in the vicinity and you could tell. I would say maybe more ominously filmed. I'm not saying like from a sneaky perspective or anything like that. It's just he was a little oblivious to a phone being there. He was talking with a friend." [From 28:47 to 29:14]
It will be interesting to see when AEW will publicly announce the new show now that Swerve Strickland has pretty much confirmed the rumors.
