Important details regarding Malakai Black's AEW contract status have just been revealed, with Double or Nothing right around the corner. This concerns his eligibility for an extension.
Malakai has been with the promotion since 2021, after he arrived with a statement in AEW, blindsiding both Arn Anderson and Cody Rhodes. He then formed the House of Black alongside Brody King and Buddy Matthews and even inducted Julia Hart to his faction.
In a recent edition of Fightful's Q & A Podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about Malakai Black's status and whether he was close to an extension time. He confirmed this and said:
"Yes, his contract is close to extension time if they pick it up." [1:43-1:47]

Malakai Black to make his pay-per-view one-on-one match debut at Double or Nothing
Despite his various feuds so far, Malakai Black has never competed in a one-on-one match at a pay-per-view. He has already made appearances, but this has mainly been in the action of tag teams and trios along with the rest of the House of Black.
This will be against Adam Copeland (FKA Edge) for the TNT Championship in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match. The Rated-R Superstar announced the challenge last week, seeing as Malakai was the one member of the House of Black that he has not beaten one-on-one and the one that has given him the most problems as of late.
The match was made official this week after the faction laid out Copeland, and Malakai seemingly accepted his challenge.
This will be the third time these two former WWE Superstars are sharing the ring, following their six-man tag match against one another at Dynasty and both being at the Royal Rumble back in 2020.
