An update on Malakai Black's AEW status has emerged. The report came after hints that he might be departing the company moments ago on Dynamite.
To begin the show, Will Ospreay claimed that after facing Buddy Matthews and Brody King, he believed they did not need to follow a leader and were incredible singles competitors in their own right.
The former NXT Champion has not been seen with the company since the Full Gear pay-per-view back in November. Alongside Brody, he was part of a four-way match with the AEW World Tag Team titles on the line.
Fightful Select has now reported on his status. Upon inquiring, it was believed that he was wrapping things up with AEW, but no one could confirm whether this meant that he would still be making appearances for the company. It was also reported that his contract included option years, and Tony Khan mentioned Malakai Black would be staying until 2027.
However, they have not been able to confirm Malakai Black's current status. There is no specific information yet regarding the end date of his deal, nor any information about him denying or accepting negotiations to extend his contract with the company. As of now, the leader of The House of Black remains with the company.
