A recent report provided some details regarding Warner Bros. Discovery's (WBD) internal reaction following the shockingly low ratings of this week's episode of AEW Dynamite. They reportedly seemed to stand unfazed and were optimistic for better ratings in the coming week.
The show which aired a few days ago only generated 502,000 viewers and had a rating of 0.16 on the key P18-49 demographic. These numbers are said to be the lowest in the show's history, despite featuring the likes of MJF, Swerve Strickland, and Will Ospreay. In comparison to last week's show, this was a major drop in viewership for the weekly show.
According to a recent report by Fightful Select, they were able to speak to a WBD representative who responded saying they just considered the numbers as an oddity in general.
They apparently named several factors, including the Juneteenth holiday, and broadcasts of other sports events including the Olympic trials and the college baseball world series. They believed this to only be an one-off situation. Another source from WBD had also told them that this will not affect any future deals between both sides, as they were optimistic for a higher number next week.
Backstage reaction among AEW talent to the low numbers for Dynamite
With it being just a few weeks till the Forbidden Door Pay-Per-View, this week's episode of AEW Dynamite saw the promotion moving into high gear in the build-up for the major crossover event.
However, despite showcasing MJF's in-ring return, a face-off between Will Ospreay and Swerve, and a first-time-ever staredown between Friedman and The Aerial Assassin later on in the night, the show came out with its lowest generated viewership and ratings in history.
According to Fightful Select, they had spoken to several AEW talent and they were surprised by the numbers, but they were able to internalize this well backstage.
At this point, it remains to be seen how the next AEW shows fare moving forward. With Rampage and Collision set to air this weekend, and the final episode of Dynamite before Forbidden Door taking place in a few days, they'll look to make up ground and bounce back from what was an odd week according to them.
