AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has been playing a new heel character on television for the past month. Some recent reports have revealed that former WWE Champion Bryan Danielson is the name who came up with Moxley's new gimmick.
Jon Moxley returned to AEW television last month and targeted Darby Allin. However, a shocking twist was seen at the All Out PPV where Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and PAC turned on Bryan Danielson and kicked him out of the Blackpool Combat Club. The Death Rider went on to defeat Bryan for the World Title at WrestleDream PPV.
According to a recent report by Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The American Dragon was not in favor of winning the World Championship but Tony Khan convinced him of the plan. Bryan Danielson also chose his retirement date and is behind the new Jon Moxley heel persona:
"Bryan Danielson did not want to win the AEW World Championship but Tony Khan talked him into it feeling that his winning would be the best possible moment for the end of AEW's biggest show of the year. Danielson pretty much chose his end date in Tacoma. The new Moxley version of the BCC is his idea," -WON.
Tommy Dreamer names AEW stars who could stand up to Jon Moxley's Blackpool Combat Club
The Blackpool Combat Club has been causing havoc in the All Elite Wrestling locker room ever since Jon Moxley took over the faction. The duo has targeted Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy, Bryan Danielson, and more over the past month.
In the recent edition of Busted Open Radio, Tommy Dreamer mentioned Eddie Kingston and Sting as the two guys who could show up to confront the Blackpool Combat Club:
"Eddie Kingston is great, if he's able to go. I mean, also, Sting. Sting can show back up, not be a wrestler, rally the troops... Sting was part of two waves, he was part of fighting off The Horsemen, he was part of fighting off The NWO, he was a main part of that, he could be like, 'Guys, I've lived here before,'" said Dreamer. We will have to wait and see who will be able to stop Jon Moxley and the rest of the Blackpool Combat Club in the upcoming months.
