AEW and WWE are often reported to be interested in various wrestlers working for the competition. Tony Khan has dropped big money on certain stars in recent years, and now sources have revealed a major WWE name that the All Elite Wrestling owner is looking to sign to a significant contract.
Kevin Owens began training for his pro wrestling journey at the age of 13 in 1998. By the time he joined World Wrestling Entertainment in late 2014, the Canadian superstar was a four-time world champion. WWE has booked Owens as a top star from day one, in NXT and on the main roster, making him the company's 16th Grand Slam Champion. He signed a multi-year contract extension in December 2021.
The Prizefighter revealed in May that he had nine months left on his deal, putting the expiration date in early 2025. Sports Illustrated spoke with the 40-year-old last week and confirmed he had not re-signed. RSN reported at the same time that KO was approached for a new contract, but had not agreed to terms, adding that AEW has had long-term interest and would make an offer if he reached free agency.
Wrestling's Worst Nightmare reportedly has major interest from All Elite Wrestling. An update from Fightful Select mentions that they have no real confirmation on whether talks between WWE and Owens are progressing, but it's no secret that Khan wants to sign Owens to AEW in a major way.
Sources noted that if Khan gets the opportunity, he plans on making a significant offer to the three-time United States Champion. Khan and other officials have wanted to sign Owens for quite a while, and if given the chance, they are committed to putting in the effort to try and bring him in.
WWE legend predicts AEW's major offer to Kevin Owens
Rumors on All Elite Wrestling being interested in signing Kevin Owens have picked up in recent weeks. There's speculation from within both companies on how bad Triple H wants to re-sign KO, and how heavy Tony Khan's interest is.
Jim Cornette recently discussed KO potentially joining AEW on The Jim Cornette Experience. The legendary manager predicted Khan will offer a massive payday to The Prizefighter.
"Owens will never work again. He'll retire on what Tony will give him this time," Jim Cornette said. [From 05:38 to 05:42]
Owens has been battling Solo Sikoa and The Bloodline for a few months, joining babyfaces like Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, among others. There have been rumors on Owens turning heel on Rhodes, which picked up after The American Nightmare retained the Undisputed WWE Championship over KO at Bash in Berlin.
