A major AEW star seemingly wants to move to WWE. However, his contract situation with Tony Khan's promotion is preventing the move from happening. The name in question is none other than Rey Fenix.
The former AEW World Tag Team Champion was reportedly planning to move to WWE alongside his partner, Penta El Zero M. While Penta's contract recently expired, Tony Khan reportedly added injury time to Rey's contract.
In a recent update by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the veteran journalist revealed that one of Rey Fenix's friends told him that the 33-year-old had a year left on his contract due to the injury time added by All Elite Wrestling.
"Rey Fenix, he’s got a long time left. I’m not exactly sure how long, but one of his friends told me like a year as far as injury time they’ve tacked on. And obviously he wants to go to WWE, and he can’t go,'' Meltzer said.
Konnan says AEW CEO Tony Khan should bury Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo
The controversial situation of Rey Fenix's AEW contract has been a major problem for The Lucha Brothers. The talented brothers were expected to sign with WWE after their deals with the Jacksonville-based promotion expired. Penta's contract recently expired, but Rey Fenix's deal is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, in a recent edition of the Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, Konnan explained how he would've handled The Lucha Bros. on their way out. The WCW veteran said that he would have buried Rey and Penta before allowing them to leave the promotion.
''This is what I would do. I would use them. I would bury them. And then, they can go when the contract's over. The thing is, he's tacked on time, which is prerogative, because Fenix was injured. But they are still getting paid," Konnan said. [From 4:38 to 5:01]
We will have to wait and see if there are any further developments in Rey Fenix's contract situation with AEW.
