AEW has signed its fair share of free agents this year, but Tony Khan still has his eyes on a few promising prospects. A new report has revealed that the Jacksonville-based promotion still has an interest in RevPro phenom Michael Oku.
Michael Oku already has ties to AEW. The 31-year-old famously defended his RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship against Will Ospreay in a 47-minute barn-burner back in February. He's also battled MJF and Serpentico, the latter of which took place in a dark match at AEW Dynamite in August.
Tony Khan was present for Oku's historic match against Ospreay earlier this year, and he seems to be a fan. In a recent Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that the All Elite Chief is keeping his eyes on the English star:
"They have had their eyes on him, and Tony Khan has said that he likes Oku. They bring him in when they're overseas. However, he's not signed, and we haven't heard that he's going to be imminently. He's still working in the UK."
Michael Oku has shown interest in joining AEW
Following Will Ospreay's departure, Michael Oku became the de facto top star in RevPro, boosting his profile on the British independent scene. Many are expecting him to eventually make the jump to WWE or AEW, and while Oku hasn't discussed his future plans, he has teased an appearance for All Elite Wrestling.
The 31-year-old discussed the possibility of showing up at All In 2024 during an interview with Stephanie Chase in August. Although he didn't ultimately compete in Wembley Stadium, he seemed enthusiastic about the prospect:
"Wembley Stadium. In my head, I was like, it would be cool if I won this title. They have a non-title, they don’t need the title, and I wrestle someone for the title at Wembley Stadium. But I would love to have a step-up from last year. So hey, there’s a Casino Gauntlet as well. There could be surprises there, and I would be very happy if my music as well plays. That’ll be very cool if my music plays at Wembley Stadium," Oku said.
All Elite Wrestling is building a substantial international presence in its roster, and Michael Oku would be a major acquisition for the company. Whether he chooses to sign with Tony Khan's promotion remains to be seen.
