Jon Moxley is currently in his record-setting fourth reign as AEW World Champion. His final WWE contract expired exactly 2,000 days ago, but fans still speculate on potential happenings such as a reunion of The Shield or the RAW return of Dean Ambrose. Sources have provided an update on Moxley's status following recent rumors and speculation among fans.
The Purveyor of Violence recently launched his AEW takeover with Marina Shafir, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC. After dethroning Bryan Danielson as World Champion and ending his full-time in-ring career, the heels put the locker room on notice.
However, fans recently marked the seventh anniversary of The Shield's first big WWE reunion by speculating on a potential return by the former Dean Ambrose. This is often a hot topic of discussion as the Original Tribal Chief and The Visionary have had their moments in the WWE storylines. The Lunatic Fringe will not be returning to WWE anytime soon. Fightful Select has confirmed that Moxley is under contract with Tony Khan until at least 2027, potentially to the end of that year.
Moxley remained loyal to AEW and worked months without a contract in 2022, but later that year, he inked a five-year extension, which is still in effect.

Regarding a future return, Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp said that he could envision a scenario that includes Moxley returning to WWE at some point for a final run with the company. However, it was also noted that the 38-year-old has never said anything to indicate that this would happen or that this is something he's planning for down the line.
Moxley's WWE contract expired on April 30, 2019. His last match came nine days earlier at The Shield's Final Chapter, which was a special non-televised live event in Moline, Illinois. The 15-minute main event saw The Shield team up one last time against Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin.
