Malakai Black's AEW contract is set to expire soon, according to recent reports. The House of Black leader is a former AEW World Trios Champion.
After his shocking release from the WWE in June 2021, Malakai Black quickly jumped ship to AEW and has since had some of his best matches and feuds in the promotion. He currently leads the House of Black faction, consisting of Buddy Matthews, Brody King, and Julia Hart. However, fans have voiced their concerns about the group's booking in recent months.
According to a recent report by Raj Giri, Malakai Black's contract is set to expire in early 2025 and the Tony Khan-led promotion is working on re-signing him. He noted that many promotions are interested in hiring the former champion.

AEW star Buddy Matthews on a potential House of Black breakup
Malakai Black started The House of Black faction shortly after his All Elite Wrestling debut. Buddy Matthews, who was initially teasing a feud with Black on social media, ended up joining forces with the former NXT Champion upon his arrival in the Jacksonville-based promotion. The group has found success in the company and are former World Trios Champions.
In a recent chat at the K&S Wrestlefest Virtual Signing, Buddy Matthews opened up about House of Black potentially parting ways. He noted how the group was different from other factions and its members would rather be supportive of each other than end up going their separate ways.
"I think with The House of Black especially like, we don't necessarily have to go down that same path as the other groups where it just ends in you know, bad way. But we are simply under the same umbrella, where we've been very supportive I think whether doing singles or all of us doing singles, somewhere we're still under that same umbrella I think that's something cool and unique."
With the rumors of Malakai Black's AEW contract possibly expiring next year, it will be interesting to see how the group moves forward if its leader decides to leave the Jacksonville-based promotion.
