AEW stars Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix, also known as The Lucha Bros, are expected to join WWE in the near future. However, that may not be happening as quickly as previously thought. A new report has shed light on the tag team's current status.

The Lucha Bros are one of the most successful and celebrated tag teams in the history of All Elite Wrestling. Together, they are former AEW World Tag Team and World Trios Champions. Additionally, Fenix is a former International Champion. However, their time in the Jacksonville-based promotion might be coming to an end soon.

Last month, reports emerged that Penta and Fenix were on their way out and potentially set to join WWE. As of this weekend, it was believed that Tony Khan had not added time to Rey Fenix's contract due to injury, and the two were all but gone.

Fightful Select has now reported that, although The Lucha Bros are still expected to jump to the sports entertainment juggernaut, they aren't signed just yet. In fact, one of Fightful's WWE sources believes that Fenix is still under contract with AEW. The real-life brothers are both still on All Elite Wrestling's official roster, so it would seem that the full saga has yet to unfold.

The Lucha Bros' Penta El Zero Miedo denies rumors of his AEW departure

When reports emerged last month that Penta El Zero Miedo had told friends that he was WWE-bound, the rumor mill kicked into overdrive. There was so much speculation online regarding The Lucha Bros' status that the 39-year-old himself had to speak up.

The masked veteran took to X (fka Twitter) in the aftermath of those reports to claim that the rumors had gotten out of control. He confirmed that AEW was still his present.

"no more gossip! my present is aew!" Penta wrote on X.

Penta and Fenix are still beloved by AEW fans, but they've been off television since July. Whether the two ultimately end up in WWE remains to be seen.
