According to recent reports, several top stars are likely to be absent from AEW television in the coming weeks. The stars from CMLL and New Japan Pro Wrestling promotions were the ones that the report referred to.
All Elite Wrestling recently updated the policy of their partnership with CMLL and NJPW which allows for cross-over of the talents of the promotions on their shows. It was reported that while Rey Fenix would be allowed to work the upcoming AEW shows however, things seem to be different for the other CMLL talents such as Rush, Kommander, and El Hijo Del Vikingo.
AAA and CMLL recently agreed to work on the same page and allow their talents to work together at Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
In a recent report by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the updated policy about the partnership between AEW and other independent promotions was reviewed. The updated policy seemed to suggest that there was continuous ongoing negotiation with NJPW and CMLL and certain Mexican talents that had not appeared for AAA in recent times were allowed to appear on AEW shows.
"The updated policy is that, and things are subject to negotiations with AEW, CMLL and New Japan, seems to be that people who have not worked for AAA of late but are Mexican born will be allowed to appear on shows with CMLL talent," said Meltzer.
He continued that as Fenix hadn't wrestled for AAA in quite some time, his appearance was a nonissue, and went on to explain the issues of talents such as Rush, Kommander, and El Hijo Del Vikingo and why they weren't eligible to appear.
"The belief is that will include Forbidden Door. We were told that because Fenix hasn’t wrestled in AAA for such a long time that his appearing on the show was fine. Rush was a different situation, as he was on the show, but didn’t wrestle. It is confirmed that unless things change, that Komander, since he holds the AAA cruiserweight title, would not be allowed to work on shows with CMLL talent, nor would El Hijo del Vikingo when he is healthy. If things are consistent, Bandido, when he’s back, should fit into the category with Fenix," stated Meltzer. [H/T: WrestleTalk]
