AEW President Tony Khan faces a ton of criticism due to his booking decisions, and recently, many have questioned why he pushes Orange Cassidy as heavily as he does. According to a recent report, it could actually be due to his plans with the International Championship.
Originally the championship debuted as the "All-Atlantic Championship" but has since been changed to the "International Championship." Fans notably criticized the belt for including Japan, which isn't close to the Atlantic Ocean, leading some to believe that this is why Khan changed the belt's name.
According to PWInsider's Mike Johnson, Tony Khan has been "leveling up" the AEW International Championship in order for it to be used as the title for Collision, which launches this June. Eric Bischoff doesn't understand why AEW is bending to CM Punk's request to rehire Ace Steel
Ace Steel was notably the only one fired after the Brawl Out Incident, but he's already been rehired, according to reports. Unfortunately, the promotion and Punk have since reached a disagreement on this matter, potentially derailing his return.
During the latest episode of Bischoff's Strictly Business podcast, the veteran harshly reacted to the speculation.
"Unfortunately, Tony will find a way to allow this to continue, and Punk will be back, which will be a big mistake. Who the f*ck is Ace Steel anyway? […] Just because he's a confidant of CM Punk's? Why is he allowed to jeopardize the network premiere of a brand-new show? Are you f*cking kidding me?” [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
It remains to be seen whether the reports surrounding Punk's delay are accurate, especially since there are conflicting rumors of Ace Steel's return to All Elite Wrestling.
Fans will, unfortunately, have to continue being patient as the story continues to unfold until June 17.
