A recent report has just surfaced regarding the potential future of one of AEW's weekly shows. This would be Rampage.
The reports come amid the talks of another show, Shockwave, joining the promotion's catalog. It has been rumored that the show could potentially be headed to FOX.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that a source revealed to them that AEW Rampage may be discontinued and that Shockwave could replace it as the company's third weekly show. This would likely be the show pitched to FOX and several other networks.
Potential reason why AEW Shockwave could be close to being made official
A few days ago, Dave Meltzer dived into the talks about FOX and AEW's deal. During a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, he gave his thoughts on the matter and mentioned how, as far as he knows, the deal has not been done yet.
He also discussed the company filing for a trademark for "Shockwave" this early on and how, for them to do this, the deal must be close to completion.
"The FOX deal is not done. I know a lot of people have been talking about the idea on the FOX Network. I would strongly suspect; I do not know, but it will not be on the FOX Network. It will probably be another station, whether it’s FS1, whether it's a different station, or whether it’s a streaming component. I don't know. And I don't believe it's a done deal either. I think it’s something they’re working on. As far as the Shockwave thing, they did trademark the name of ‘Shockwave,’ so they have to be pretty darn close to a deal to go and actually go to the length of trademarking the name," he said.
At this point, everything is just rumor and speculation, but fans should stay tuned for official updates regarding the future of the promotion's weekly shows.
