A veteran wrestling journalist shared the potential reason why the current Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes made his appearance on NXT this past week. Cody was already announced to appear on the show on Tuesday.

It was previously announced that Cody Rhodes is set to appear on WWE's developmental brand, NXT this week. The Undisputed WWE Champion showed up to greet the current NXT champion, Trick Williams in the ring for a promo segment. Furthermore, Cody also shared a backstage segment with former AEW stars, Brian Pillman Jr., Shawn Spears, and Ethan Page.

When the TV ratings were out, it was revealed as per Wrestlenomics that NXT recorded 718,000 average ratings on Tuesday. Interestingly, the numbers were higher than AEW Dynamite on Wednesday which captured only 681,000 on average going head-to-head with NBA finals.

Fans have been speculating that the purpose of Cody being on the developmental show was to defeat Dynamite in TV ratings. Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer on the recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that the idea of Rhodes being sent on NXT was to win the ratings war against Dynamite. Meltzer said:

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

"Obviously the idea with Cody Rhodes was Dynamite was going head-to-head with the NBA and they really wanted that win."

Cody Rhodes is set for a major title defense at Clash at the Castle

Ever since Cody Rhodes became the Undisputed WWE Champion at WrestleMania 40, he has overcome every challenger from AJ Styles to Logan Paul. Meanwhile, Styles recently faked his retirement and once again challenged Cody for the title.

As a result, Rhodes will defend the Undisputed title against AJ in an 'I Quit' match at the Clash at the Castle PLE this weekend. The rivalry is now more personal, as AJ assaulted Cody after faking his retirement.

Moreover, after failing to capture the Undisputed WWE title from The American Nightmare at Backlash, AJ Styles has got another opportunity. It remains to be seen who walks out of the PLE as champion this weekend.
