An AEW duo disclosed certain creative plans that didn't happen in reality. The former champions being discussed are the Young Bucks.
The former AEW World Tag Team Champions have been absent since losing their titles to Private Party in October. Moments after their loss, they fled the company and started working from home due to the ongoing chaos of the Death Riders. While they are on a hiatus from the Jacksonville-based promotion, the Young Bucks are getting ready to capture gold from another major promotion.
The former champions returned to NJPW and challenged their IWGP Tag Champions Great-O-Khan and HENARE to a match at Wrestle Dynasty. Unfortunately, the latter was injured and they had to vacate the titles. As of now, the Young Bucks will face Khan and a mystery opponent for the titles.
In a recent interview, the EVPs made a huge revelation about their most recent title reign. The Young Bucks claimed that they were supposed to be squashed by a major team but this plan was scrapped. They didn't reveal the name of the team in the interview; however, Fightful Select has reported that The Outrunners were being considered to take the titles from them.
Young Bucks reveal why they lost to AEW's Private Party
The former AEW World Tag Team Champions claimed that they were supposed to lose the titles months ago, but the creative team changed the plan multiple times.
While speaking on Tunnel Talk, the EVPs claimed that after having a top-notch bout against Private Party at WrestleDream, Tony Khan decided that the latter team should become the next champions.
"Something changed and we ended up wrestling [Private Party] in a match [at WrestleDream]… but we tore the house down. As soon as we got backstage, we knew, ‘Oh alright.’ It’s in Tony’s eyes. He was like, ‘I think we have something, I think we have something.’ And Matt and I thought the same exact thing. We were like, ‘We’ve got to pivot. We’ve got to change our plans again.’ And that was like the fourth time changing plans for those titles to be dropped," they said.
It remains to be seen when the Young Bucks will return to the Jacksonville-based promotion.
