For a while now, the pro wrestling community has been buzzing with rumors of top star Rey Fenix leaving AEW to join WWE. However, it may not happen anytime soon, per a new report.
Last month, it was reported that Rey Fenix and his brother Penta El Zero Miedo were expected to part ways with AEW soon. It was also rumored that the Stamford-based company was interested in signing The Lucha Brothers.
Fenix and Penta's AEW contracts will reportedly expire at the same time, which may be soon. This means they'll be free to join WWE. However, according to a new report, Tony Khan is planning to keep the 33-year-old star in the company for another year.
Fenix was away from in-ring action due to injury issues for a long time. Hence, AEW might extend his contract by another year. Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio shed some light on the former International Champion's potential pro wrestling future and said:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
“As far as Rey Fenix goes, it’s still up in the air with Tony Khan. I was told tonight that Rey Fenix has not been told that he’s being released or going to be allowed to go, and he’s got like a year left because of injury time. His contract itself is up [at] the same time that Pentagon’s would be, but they could keep him for another year. I don’t know what’s going to happen and nobody knows what’s going to happen. I know, obviously, he wants to go, we’ll see,” Meltzer said. [H/T: Ringside News]
WWE has reportedly given the green light to The Lucha Brothers' merchandise production
It is unclear whether wrestling fans will see Rey Fenix in the Stamford-based promotion soon. However, the Triple H-led management seems highly interested in hiring Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo.
A few days ago, WrestleVotes Radio reported that WWE had started producing merchandise and promotional material for The Lucha Brothers' arrival already.
The Lucha Brothers have been in AEW since 2019. They are former AEW World Tag Team Champions and World Trios Champions.
