One of AEW's top stars may be on the verge of calling it a day on his illustrious career, as Kenny Omega recently commented on his future in the wrestling business.
Kenny Omega made his wrestling debut way back in 2000. However, it wasn't until the last decade that he truly made his mark on the business. The Cleaner rose to prominence in New Japan Pro Wrestling and was one of the promotion's most successful champions in terms of in-ring performances and drawing power.
Omega's athletic feats and layered storytelling enabled him to become one of the few household wrestling names not signed to WWE. In many ways, his popularity was the launching pad to create AEW, the promotion he is currently an Executive Vice President of.
Ahead of his Cage Match against Jon Moxley on this week's Dynamite, Omega spoke to Sports Illustrated and revealed that his career may end sooner than most fans would want:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"Time is running thin on the Kenny Omega clock. I can guarantee anyone that sees me perform live that there is a reason for that performance, and I work to make every one special. I wanted this one to be unique and very fun for people who tune in and people who are there live. And I know how competitive Jon is. This will be a grueling, physically demanding and violent cage match."
While fans may not be ready to say goodbye and goodnight to the ever-popular star, that time may be approaching soon. The best solution is to enjoy the performances he delivers while we still can.
Kenny Omega's long battle with injuries in AEW
Kenny Omega's risk-taking, high-impact style has certainly taken a toll on the 39-year-old's body. He spent most of 2022 away from the ring to rehab injuries that had been bothering him for some time.
During his time away, The Best Bout Machine underwent hernia and knee surgeries. It was also revealed that Omega had been wrestling with vertigo, a condition he picked up several years prior. He also went about mending his shoulder, which was heavily damaged.
The Canadian has since returned to AEW and continues to put on phenomenal performances. However, who knows for how long? Nonetheless, Omega will leave a massive space in the promotion once he decides to hang up his boots for good.
