AEW President Tony Khan has signed a lot of former WWE stars to the Jacksonville-based promotion ever since he started the company. There have been some cases where these moves paid off and there have been times when the signings absolutely did not shine.
Such is the nature of the business given that these are the only two big companies in the wrestling circuit. Despite some signings not living up to their expectations, Khan has not been deterred and has continued the trend of signing former WWE names. Matt Cardona is a former Intercontinental and United States Champion.
Chris Jericho recently took on Cardona at the Ring of Honor Final Battle and came out on top as he successfully defended his ROH World Championship. Before the show, there was a lot of chatter about Cardona potentially moving to AEW and that could very well happen now the event is done.

Cardona is a big name on the independent scene and having him come over to AEW will only elevate the brand and put more eyes on the product.
Former WWE star Matt Cardona has his say on future amid AEW links
Former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona is a wrestler in demand and he knows it. His showing at the Ring of Honor Final Battle only further solidified his standing in the wrestling world.
He was recently asked about his future amid links to AEW when he was on The Takedown. He candidly answered that he was taking one show at a time while treating each opportunity as the biggest deal. He also noted that he preferred to take things as they came and not look too far into the future.
"Listen, I cannot think about the future. I need to think one show at a time. I can't be looking ahead. I need to focus day by day. That with independence, that's what's made me so successful is that I'm treating each opportunity like it's the biggest deal. Because if I don't treat it like it's a big deal, then it's not a big deal. So I go all in on every single thing that I do. I take one match at a time, one day at a time," he said.
It will be interesting to see what Tony Khan has in store for Matt Cardona after his recent showing at Final Battle.
