A few months ago, an actor from the blockbuster Avengers franchise had high praise for former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe as they worked with each other on the Twisted Metal series. This would be Anthony Mackie.
Joe plays Sweet Tooth, a psychotic clown who is the antagonist of the show. Will Arnett serves as the voice actor for the character but it is the Samoan Submission Machine who does all the acting as far as the on-screen product is concerned. He has taken time off recently to film the second season of the show, which is set to release in a few months. Now that this is finished, he could make his return to wrestling soon.
While appearing in an interview on Variety's Actors on Actors with Tyler James Williams, Anthony Mackie spoke about working with Samoa Joe and how blown away he was with his performance. He mentioned how great of a job he and Will Arnett did with the character.
"It's a testament to Samoa Joe, like I was blown away by this dude from the first moment he stepped on set. I mean, first of all, he's a larger-than-life human being, but he was doing everything with that mask on. He was acting his a** off. It was amazing 'cause he and Will (Arnett) worked out this idea of what the character was gonna be, and he was doing just like some circus-type performance, 'cause him, it was all just bodywork. He continued by praising him for doing something that most veteran actors may not have been able to pull off.
"So, it was literally like he was doing some Vaudevilles-type s**t, knowing that he was going to be voiced over. But he knew all the lines, he hit all the jokes, he hit everything. In a way, and I don't think this is his first time acting, I don't think a veteran actor could have done what he did." [29:45-30:06]
Samoa Joe has also secured another role in non-wrestling project
A few months ago, Samoa Joe revealed that he would also be featured in a video game, as they decided to pattern the in-game models of one of their characters to him. He will also be voicing the said character.
This would be Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which is set to release in early 2025. He took to X/Twitter, to post one of the latest trailers of the game, which featured his character named Raymond Law. It was not disclosed what his role will be, except that he was the Pirate King of Madlantis.
"Allow me to introduce you. His name is Raymond Law. He is the Pirate king of Madlantis. His will shall not be denied! Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, releasing Feb 21st 2025 on Xbox, Playstation and Steam," wrote Joe.
The AEW star's character can be seen at the 1:28 mark of the video below.
Following the completion of all his prior commitments, fans can expect Samoa Joe back in AEW. He was last seen feuding with The Learning Tree back in July, so it remains to be seen what is next for him.
