Clubs looking to participate in the 2024 AFL Mid-Season Draft have adjusted their list to create space for new draftees in the upcoming draft. The AFL Mid-Season Draft gives teams ample opportunity to strengthen their squad with new players ahead of the second half of the season, but only clubs with open spots on their list can partake in the selection.
As Per AFL.com.au, Brisbane has the highest number of available slots in this year's Mid-Season Draft. The Lions will be eligible to make four picks in the draft after creating four spots by moving players with season-ending injuries to the inactive list.
The 11-time premiers have suffered a bad run of injuries this term, losing key players like Keidean Coleman, Lincoln McCarthy, Tom Doedee, and Darcy Gardiner for the rest of the 2024 season.
Underwhelming Richmond Tigers have opened up three slots on their list and will be entitled to three picks. Adelaide Crows will also have three picks, while 2023 premiers Collingwood and rock-bottom North Melbourne have two picks each.
Clubs with only one pick include Hawthorn Hawks, Western Bulldogs, Carlton Blues, St Kilda, Melbourne Demons, Port Adelaide Power, Essendon, and table-toppers Sydney Swans.
The Swans have moved Jack Butler, who they drafted in the 2023 AFL Mid-Season Draft to the inactive list. The 23-year-old forward sustained a back injury, and the league leaders will utilize his season absence to bolster their ranks.
Four clubs, namely Geelong, Fremantle, Gold Coast, and Greater Western Sydney will not be involved in the draft. These teams either have no available spots or have indicated they will not take part in the draft.
