West Coast will be without star midfielder Elliot Yeo when they clash with Melbourne Demons on Sunday, May 19. Both teams will square off at Optus Stadium for Sunday's Sir Doug Nicholls Round 10 clash, but Waalitj Marawar will not deploy Yeo, who is still recovering from a groin injury.
The 30-year-old sustained a groin injury two weeks ago against Essendon and missed the Eagles Round 10 loss to Collingwood. Yeo joined the team in training ahead of their clash with Narrm (Melbourne Demons), but the club has decided to rest him this week due to his long history of injury setbacks.
Coach Adam Simpson talked Yeo's availability, explaining why the 2018 premiership player will not play this week. He said (via AFL.com.au):
"He was close. He trained - not fully though. He got through training and just didn't feel confident."
"It was a 50-50 call, but just his history ... and quite often we go off what Yeo is feeling. So we're going to give him another week."
Yeo is expected to train fully next week and be available for West Coast's Round 11 clash with Adelaide Crows. However, the Eagles will have key defender Jeremy McGovern back in the team to face Narrm.
After landing awkwardly on the turf, the 32-year-old was substituted during last weekend's loss to Collingwood. However, after precautionary scans delivered a positive result, McGovern is available to face the Crows.
West Coast will look to return to winning ways against Adelaide
West Coast will look to pick a win in their Sir Doug Nicholls Round 10 clash with Adelaide this weekend. The Eagles are on a four-game losing streak, with their last win coming in Round 6 against Fremantle Dockers.
In Round 7, they lost 112-75 to the Gold Coast Suns. The Eagles then lost to Essendon in Round 8 by six points, before suffering a humiliating 66-point loss to Collingwood in Round 10.
Adam Simpson's side is 16th in the AFL standings with a 2-7 record, sitting four points above Richmond and eight above rock-bottom North Melbourne.
