Australian alternative rock band ‘Something for Kate’ is set to perform at the annual ANZAC day match AFL between Essendon and Collingwood. Their performance will take place as part of the pregame presentation. Something for Kate are legends of Australian music. With 2 decades of success under their belt and endless accolades, their performance at this important event will be highly anticipated.
The band is reportedly honored to hold such a significant role in Thursday's celebrations. Something for Kate’s Paul Dempsey commented, saying,
“We are beyond excited to be playing at the ANZAC Day game. It’s obviously one of the biggest games of the year and to be invited to play to a full house at the MCG with that incredible atmosphere, on such a momentous occasion, is truly an honor and a highlight.”
AFL General Manager Commercial Peta Webster expressed her delight at the band’s eagerness to perform at the event, saying,
“We’re delighted to have critically acclaimed Aussie rock band Something for Kate perform at the MCG as part of our 2024 ANZAC Day presentation,”
“ANZAC Day is one of our country’s most important national occasions so I’d encourage all fans attending matches throughout the round to arrive early to soak up the atmosphere and pre-match formalities that will no doubt be another moving tribute to the sacrifices of our past and present service men and women.”
The annual event is held to remember and honor the selfless sacrifice of service men and women. As always, ANZAC Day will be held on the 25th of April.
Lots to look forward to for AFL fans on ANZAC Day
The ANZAC Day motorcade parade will take place along the boundary line of the MCG. Representatives from the Australian armed forces will be in attendance. The Australian Army Band will also be in attendance and will perform for the fans on the Ponsford stage. Fans will also be able to watch the Australian Air Force performing an aerial roulette flyover before the match.
The Ode of Remembrance and the Last Post will be followed by the Australian and New Zealand National anthems. The Collingwood Magpies and Essendon Bombers will run through a joint banner to symbolize unity and the spirit of the celebration.
The ANZAC Day AFL clash is held every year on the 25th of April. In addition, all nine matches in round seven of the AFL premiership season will have ANZAC observance ceremonies before each game.
