"I accept the criticism because it's valid" - Ross Lyon speaks up on recent criticism after St Kilda lose to Hawthorn

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon has accepted the criticism after their defeat to Hawthorn. The team was a strong favorite to win, but the match resulted in their 53-58 defeat earlier this month.

Ahead of St Kilda's match against Fremantle on Saturday, May 18, the team was brutally criticized for their defeat, but Ross Lyon admitted it was valid. Speaking about the criticism, Lyon said (via ABC.net):

"We were really disappointed. I knew there would be criticism. We were really disappointed with our offence. There were a lot of opportunities left on the table that we were really disappointed with.

"I accept the criticism because it's valid. I've said there was a sameness [about us]. I'm not perturbed, but all there is [now] is action. Everyone does a lot of talking. We want to develop our young players, we want to get our senior players in good form. We've been spluttering. Ideally, we'd have another one or two wins on the board and I'd be pretty comfortable with all things taken into consideration," he added.

St Kilda faced off against Hawthorn in Round 9 of the 2024 AFL Season. The team made a poor start to the game and struggled throughout to settle for a score of 53.

St. Kilda started the season with a loss against Geelong, but won against Collingwood. In Round 3, St. Kilda lost against Essendon before bouncing back to defeat Richmond. They lost by just one point against Greater Western Sydney, which was followed by another defeat against Western Bulldogs.

In Round 7, St Kilda again lost a match against Port Adelaide, but they rebounded fabulously in Round 8 and won the match against North Melbourne. Following their strong comeback against North Melbourne, they were the favorite to win against Hawthorn but unfortunately lost the match.

St Kilda lose to Fremantle in Round 10

St Kilda's losing streak continued in the match against Fremantle on Saturday. The team struggled throughout the game. Fremantle took an early lead with a score of 20, while St Kilda could only manage 12 points.

In the second quarter, St Kilda started strong with two back-to-back goals, ending the quarter with 33 points, just three points behind Fremantle. St Kilda was impressive in the third quarter, tying the score at 47-47 by the end of the quarter, but they struggled in the final quarter and ultimately lost the match 55-72.
