Essendon Bombers coach Brad Scott revealed what he told Kyle Langford after he missed the match-winning goal at the Anzac Day match. In Round 7 of the 2024 AFL season, Essendon competed against Collingwood, resulting in a tie with a score of 85-85.
It was the first match to end in a tie this season. Kyle Langford was impressive throughout the game, scoring two goals for his team in the final quarter but struggling in the final few minutes.
Following the match, Brad Scott spoke about it, mentioning that he only asked Langford if he had followed his routine. As the game was crucial, Scott believed players needed to be careful with their game and workout routines.
Speaking about Kyle Langford, Brad Scott said (via Fox Sports):
“It was a great opportunity for me as coach. I said to Langers, in front of all the players, ‘Did you follow your routines?’ Because he has an incredibly consistent routine that he just drills week in, week out. He said, ‘Yep’."
“That’s all we’re asking (them) to do. Follow your process, your routine and try to execute. This game is not perfect. You’re going to miss some. The mistakes that we get really frustrated by are when we go away from our system or what we train. And if he’d gone away from his process, then there’d be an issue. But he didn’t. He just didn’t execute. He usually does.
“If I’m going to stick true to talking to the players about what we value ... we’re not going to hang guys out to dry based on the result, then that was the perfect opportunity to reinforce that," he added.
Before this, Essendon played against Adelaide in Round 6 and won the match. They have been playing well this season and will next compete against the West Coast on May 4.
