The Western Bulldogs came out supreme in their round 6 clash against St Kilda at the Marvel Stadium on Thursday, April 18. The Dogs secured an emphatic victory over the Saints, recording their third victory of the 2024 season by 60 point margin (64-124).
Luke Beveridge's side put up a dominant display in all quarters, inflicting a second consecutive defeat on their opponents. A commanding first-quarter lead (6-43) steered the visitors to victory.
They led (27-76) at halftime and by the third quarter, had blown the Saints out of the water (37-100). Ross Lyon's side won the last quarter (27-16), but the damage had already been done for a disappointing 64-124 loss.
Aaron Naughton was the spearhead for the winning side. The Dogs' key forward kicked six goals on the night, three more than Tim Membrey, who was the Saints' highest goalscorer in the tie.
This victory comes as a huge let-off for under-fire coach Beveridge, whose position has come under scrutiny in the past couple of weeks. Based on previous records, the Saints were the glaring favorites heading into the game, but Beveridge was able to steer his boys to a commanding victory.
For Coach Lyon, his side's slow start to games is becoming a worry. The Saints have trailed by huge margins in their last three games - Richmond (22), Greater Western Sydney (19), and Western Bulldogs (49).
