Who is Jaxon Binns? 19-year-old becomes Carlton Blues player No.1239 after making AFL debut against Geelong Cats

Jaxon Binns recently made his debut for Carlton Blues in a match against Geelong Cats on April 27.

Binns became the 1239th player for Carlton Blues after being picked in the 2022 NAB AFL draft. The 19-year-old had previously played in the VFL for Carlton only and was the VFL best and fairest winner.

Jaxon Binns plays in the midfielder position, and in his debut match, he recorded an average of 2.0 disposals. His kick average in the match against Geelong was 1, while his handball average was also one.

However, it was not a stellar start for Jaxon Binns in his debut match, as the Blues were defeated by the Geelong Cats with a score of 118-105. The team struggled throughout the match, with Geelong Cats leading the tournament from start to finish.

Binns had an impressive season playing at the VFL. He played in 17 matches for his club, Carlton Reserves. His impressive game at VFL made Carlton pick him in the 2022 AFL Draft.

Carlton Blues performance in Jaxon Binns' debut match

Carlton Blues did not perform well in Jaxon Binns' debut match against Geelong Cats. Despite their efforts, the team struggled to deliver a strong performance.

The match commenced with the Cats taking the lead, as Jeremy Cameron scored the day's first goal, giving his team a six-point advantage. Geelong Cats played fairly well in the first quarter and secured a lead of 32-20.

The second quarter began with Tyson Stengle scoring the first goal, further extending the Cats' lead to 38-20. Despite Carlton's attempt to put up a tough fight, as they managed to score four goals in the second quarter, they still trailed behind with a score of 64-45.

Carlton scored five goals in the third quarter, bringing their total to 76 points, but they remained behind by nine points. Although they tried to make a comeback in the final quarter, it wasn't enough for Carlton to secure a victory against the Geelong Cats.

Carlton Blues coach Michael Voss expressed dissatisfaction with his team's defeat. Speaking of the match, Voss said (via AFL.com):

"I don't want us to settle that it was a good effort, or that it was close. It was unacceptable and we've got to be better. We'd like to think that we benchmark ourselves off our own standards and we fell below those tonight on defending, so we've got to be better. We've got to expect better from each other.

In Round 8, Carlton will play against Collingwood on Friday, May 3 and then will play against Melbourne on May 9.
