Port Adelaide handed mid-season draftee Logan Evans his debut in Saturday’s Round 15 match-up against the Brisbane Lions on June 22. With the four final changes made for Saturday's game against Brisbane, Evans joined the squad and made his AFL debut.
In his debut game, he recorded 20 disposals, five marks, and gained 424 meters, showing that he might just be the support Port Adelaide's backline needs.
The 18-year-old maintained a neat individual form despite his side's 152-73 loss to Brisbane. Prior to his selection, Evans dazzled selectors with his clean hands and neat intercepting skills. He has been described as a “smart” ball-user (per https://portadelaidefc.com) and deemed fit for an opportunity at the senior level.
Port Adelaide Debutant Logan Evans; All there is to know
Norwood junior Logan Evans was taken as the No. 12 pick in the AFL 2024 Mid-Season Draft by Port Adelaide into their SANFL side. The defender came in via Norwood’s U16 and U18 pathway through the Hectorville Football Club, where he played four League games in 2023 with the Redlegs.
In the 2024 season, he moved on to Port Adelaide through the SANFL Rookie Program and played four more games with the Magpies in 2024, whilst still remaining on Norwood’s Senior List.
Although Logan Evans was eligible for last season's AFL National Draft, he wasn’t selected. On May 29th, 2024, he was taken in the Mid-Season Draft by the Power.
Following Will Rowlands' move to Gold Coast via the 2023 AFL Rookie Draft, Evans became the second Norwood junior player from the 2023 Draft class to be drafted.
Logan Evans made a notable impact in the SANFL before heading on to Port Adelaide in the AFL. As a defender, he has displayed impressive consistency and skill throughout his tenure. His playing statistics reflect this.
Early in his career, Evans was recognized for his outstanding defensive capabilities. Prior to his stint with Norwood, Logan Evans played for his local club, Hectorville. National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker prior to Evans' selection said (per portadelaidefc.com.au):
“He’s a versatile footballer with a neat kick and plenty of offensive talent. Logan is a mature 18-year-old with good character, who has already proven to be a great cultural fit. We are pleased to offer Logan the opportunity to join an AFL list, especially with the hard work he’s put in since being overlooked in the national draft.”
In the SANFL, Logan featured in six matches with a 50% scoring percentage, made 90 disposals, averaging 15 per game with an 83% efficiency. He averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.2 clearances, 10 kicks, 61.8 raking points, and five marks. With his neat individual performance on Saturday, Evans just might be one to watch out for.
