Matthijs de Ligt is leaving Ajax Amsterdam this summer and is linked to a host of clubs across Europe. But recently, a story in the media was doing the rounds that the Dutch youngster would be choosing Manchester United because of the unmatched salary that they were providing and he broke his silence on the matter.

Matthijs de Ligt made his debut in the Dutch Eredivisie at the age of 17 and since then there's been no looking back for the defender. He has been smashing records left, right and center. He scored on his debut for Ajax in a cup game against Willem II making him the second youngest goalscorer ever behind Clarence Seedorf. At the age of 17 years and 285 days, he became the youngest player to play a major European final as he started the match against Manchester United in the 2017 Europa League final.

He won the Golden Boy award in December 2018, making him the first defender to win the award. He also became the youngest player to start for the Dutch national team since 1931 at the age of 17. In March 2018, he became the youngest ever captain of Ajax Amsterdam after an injury to Joel Veltman. As a captain, he led Ajax to the UEFA Champions League semis showcasing his brilliant talent on the way.

The player is undecided over his next club and there are loads of speculations about him in the media these days. One of the latest things to come out of the rumor mill was De Ligt was accepting an offer from Manchester United with a weekly wage of £350,000. When asked about the offer by a Fox Sports journalist the defender rebuffed the claims

‘People should take these reports with a grain of salt. The stories are funny though. ‘Everyone has been talking about my future for a year now. One day I will go there, and the next day I will go somewhere else.

Matthijs de Ligt is one of the most sought after players in Europe this summer. He has insisted that his future will be decided after the Nations League fixtures with the Netherlands next month.

The talented defender has been linked to likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Liverpool, and Manchester United with Barcelona being the strong favourites to sign the player according to many outlets.
