“History maker Jungkook”: BTS’ youngest member sets Guinness World Record for fastest K-pop soloist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify

BTS’ Jungkook has added another achievement to his ever-growing kitty of achievements by setting a Guinness World Record for the fastest K-pop soloist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. It is a notable achievement considering the BTS member has not made his solo debut yet. BTS’ Jungkook and V are the only two members of the group who have yet to have their solo releases.

On May 7, Guinness World Records' official social media handles shared that BTS’ Jungkook has now set the record for the fastest K-pop soloist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify in a record 409 days.

Additionally, the achievement is special as it is reported that BTS’ Jungkook will finally make his solo debut this year and is currently stationed in Los Angeles, where he is preparing hard for JJK1 (the tentative title of his debut solo album). Hence, fans believe the Spotify achievement is a nice boost to his credibility before he officially drops his album, which is said to be in the last quarter of the year.

“History maker Jungkook,” SK POP’s official Twitter account @SKPopCulture wrote in response to the singer’s incredible Guinness World Record, beating fellow 97-liner idol BLACKPINK’s Lisa to become the fastest K-pop soloist to achieve this feat.

🟢#BTS' #JUNGKOOK has achieved the impressive Guinness World Record of "FASTEST K-POP SOLOIST to Reach 1 BILLION streams on Spotify" (409 days) without making a solo debut & just 3 songs!

CONGRATULATIONS JUNGKOOK! 🥳

As reiterated previously, it is an amazing achievement considering he hasn’t officially debuted his solo album yet. Fans have taken to social media to congratulate him. “History Maker Jungkook” and “Guinness World Record for Jungkook” took over top social media trends on Twitter.

With this, BTS’ 97-liner and maknae surpassed the record held by BLACKPINK’s 97-liner and maknae Lisa, who previously held the record with her own three songs: LALISA and MONEY, the title tracks of her debut solo album LALISA, and SG, her collab with Megan Thee Stallion and DJ Snake.

BTS’ youngest member surpassed Lisa’s record by a cutthroat two days. Lisa achieved 1 billion Spotify streams in 411 days, and the Euphoria singer achieved it in 409 days.

It is also commendable as the songs were released in two to three years of time. Stay Alive featuring SUGA was released on February 11, 2022, as part of the BTS-based webtoon 7Fates: Chakho in 2022. The second song, Left and Right, marked his first official collaboration with one of his all-time favorite singers, Charlie Puth. Left and Right was released on June 24 last year.

Knetz are so proud and can’t wait for JUNGKOOK’s solo album as they reacted to the news of Jungkook setting a Guinness World Record with just 3 songs on Spotify and before his official solo debut.

“Only 3 songs without official solo album. Jungkook is amazing”

Notably, Left and Right peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time of its release. A couple of months later, it was announced that he would be releasing an anthem for the 2022 FIFA World Cup titled Dreamers, which he also performed at the opening ceremony on November 20, 2022.

With this, he became the first K-pop artist to take center stage at the FIFA World Cup and release a World Cup anthem. FIFA uploaded his official performance on YouTube, and after six months, the video has surpassed the 50 million views mark. The music video is among the top 10 most-watched videos on FIFA's official YouTube channel, with Dreamers earning the record for the most-watched music video on the channel with 155 million views.

BTS’ youngest member has reclaimed the title of male K-Pop soloist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify without any new releases. His last official release was Dreamers, the FIFA World Cup anthem in 2022.

He has had no song release since then and yet became the male K-pop soloist with the highest number of monthly releases on Spotify with 12.5 million monthly listeners (as of April 6), surpassing bandmate Jimin.

He has only had three solo releases in recent times: Stay Alive, Left and Right, and Dreamers. Yet, he is the most streamed artist for the month. The singer is reportedly preparing for the release of his debut solo album, JJK1 (tentative title), which will reportedly be released by the end of the year, completing the BTS solo release circle. Besides that, he is also promoting the American casual wear brand, Calvin Klein.
