"Didn't Anne Hathaway do all the work?"— Internet reacts as Paul Rust recalls James Franco flipping out over bad Oscar reviews
Paul Rust revealed some behind-the-scenes information during the 2011 Oscars when James Franco hosted the event with Anne Hathaway. During the December 27 episode of With Gurley and Rust podcast, the American actor and comedian said that he saw James "flip out" on set several days after his Oscar hosting stint. He said:
"I saw James Franco flip out once."
He said that it was around "two days" after Franco hosted the Oscars, adding:
"He was upset because the reviews were not good. He was in a bad mood."
Rust noted that the "flip out" happened on the set of the CollegeHumor promo. He said the Hollywood actor had "his head down" and was "mumbling all of his lines," which deemed the footage useless.
Recalling the event, Paul Rust mentioned the director asking Franco what happened, which he said made the actor even more upset to the point that he kicked a chair and stormed out of the stage.
Paul Rust's recollection of James Franco flipping out on set made rounds on social media, with netizens commenting their takes on his hosting gig at the Oscars.
"I didn't watch the Oscars but didn't Anne Hathaway do all the work?," a Reddit user commented.
Other netizens agreed, saying that Anne Hathaway carried the show while Franco gave the audience "nothing."
"She did! She was giving her 110% because James Franco was giving the audience nothing," another Reddit user said.
"She had theater kid energy while Franco had basically no energy and clearly didn't want [to] be there or do anything. It made her look worse in comparison," a user on Reddit added.
"She turned her energy level because he was barely giving anything! From what I remember he seemed like he was too cool to be hosting and she seemed kinda desperate to save it by trying extra hard," a Reddit user said.
Meanwhile, other netizens recalled the Oscars event and pointed out that Franco appeared "high" and blazed at the time.
"He seemed as high as giraffe balls," a Reddit user commented.
"It has been a minute, but I definitely recalled thinking he was blaaaaaaaazed," another user on Reddit said.

Paul Rust says that the CollegeHumor promo James Franco filmed never "saw the light of day" after he flipped out
During the latest episode of With Gurley and Rust podcast, Paul Rust further recalled the shooting he did with James Franco days after the actor's hosting stint at the Oscars.
He said that the idea for the CollegeHumor promo was that a group of nerds are playing Dungeons and Dragons with Your Highness stars James Franco and Danny McBride.
He recalled the premise for the shoot, saying that part of the joke was that James Franco had to be "self-effacing." He recalled that the actor was already in a bad mood and started doing ad-libs during the shoot, including mumbling about himself being "high on her**n" when he was hosting the Oscars, which alerted the publicist.
It wasn't part of the script. So when Franco started talking about that, which the comedian said was partly because there was chatter about Franco being high while onstage at the Oscars, the publicist told him that he shouldn't be saying those things.
Paul Rust added that after Franco kicked the chair and stormed out of the stage, he never came back. Rust also believes the promo never "saw the light of day" despite the production trying to reconfigure the project.
