Who is Kjersti Flaa? Reporter claims old interview with Blake Lively was a nightmare
Kjersti Flaa, a renowned Norwegian journalist and multimedia producer based out of Los Angeles, has recently made headlines after sharing an unsettling experience from her past interview with Blake Lively. Flaa has quite a background as an entertainment journalist and has contributed to the production of TV shows and interviews for platforms such as TV 2 Direkte, Elle International, and HollyWire on Samsung TV Plus. Nonetheless, one interview, in which she spoke with the actress Blake Lively, made her doubt herself as a journalist.
Kjersti Flaa remembers her 2016 Interview with Blake Lively
In a recent video that Kjersti Flaa posted on her channel, Flawsome Talk, Flaa went back to Blake Lively’s interview in 2016, specifically during her appearance for the Café Society alongside co-star Parker Posey. Flaa said the interview was “the most uncomfortable situation” she has ever been in, which was so unpleasant that it almost compelled her to quit her job.
Kjersti Flaa started the interview by congratulating Lively on her pregnancy; however, this was received with a highly sarcastic remark by the actress. Lively commented-
‘Congratulations on your little baby,’
referring to Flaa’s ‘bump,’ although she is not pregnant. Thus, the show starts on an uncomfortable note right from the beginning.
The awkwardness persisted as Flaa tried to ask about the film’s clothing with the actresses, especially due to the film’s setting in the 1930s. However, Lively cut the journalist on the clothing, pointing out if similar questions would be asked to male actors. The interview devolved into Lively and Posey talking amongst themselves, largely ignoring Flaa's attempts to steer the conversation.
People leapt to Kjersti Flaa’s defence and called out Lively for being weird and out of order on social media. The audience comprehensively applauded Flaa for retaining her polite decorum during the ‘highly uncomfortable’ conversation, though they completely did not believe how ‘rude’ both actresses were.
Blake Lively has been embroiled in controversy surrounding her latest film, "It Ends With Us," where she stars alongside and under the direction of Justin Baldoni. The movie was based on the novel written by Colleen Hoover and contains the themes of domestic violence and intimate partner violence (IPV). However, there are rumours that Lively and Baldoni have had some disagreements since the movie was filmed.
During filming and post-production, there were rumours of a power struggle between Lively and Baldoni. As reported by the sources, Lively commissioned her own cut of the film, clashing with Justin Baldoni's vision. This friction was reportedly not limited to the creative process, and in marketing the said movie, Lively and Baldoni adopted different strategies.
Baldoni has been praised for focusing on survivors and raising awareness of the severity of the issues related to domestic violence during interviews. On the other hand, Blake Lively has been called out for what can be perceived as trivializing the movie's theme. Critics of the promotion noted that Lively’s comments and attempts to deflect attention to her character's profession as a florist appear to downplay the movie’s message.
