Most of the time, these egotistical anime characters exhibit grandiose ambitions of world domination in one way or the other. They add depth to the anime by either challenging the protagonists or serving as anti-heroic protagonists themselves.

Tengen is the Sound Hashira of Demon Slayer, possessing exceptional combat skills. He is one of the egotistical anime characters with a god complex who calls himself the God of Festivities. Tengen has a flamboyant personality and wants everything around him to be overdone.
Even though he thinks highly of himself, he loves his three wives dearly. However, Tengen is seen to demean others by casually throwing insults at them when they can't keep up with the Hashira training. His colossal ego makes him think that everything in the world is his possession and that he is the only king of the world. Gilgamesh doesn't take his battles seriously. He doesn't see real threats coming from others, as he thinks of himself as superior to everyone else.

Hisoka is a Hunter and the primary antagonist of Hunter x Hunter. Eventually, he became a supporting character in the series, and he again became the antagonist later in the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc.
Hisoka is one of the egotistical anime characters who indulge in his sadistic personality. He is extremely self-centered and does everything according to his wishes without regard for other characters.

Lelouch's dignity causes him to view academics as trivial while focusing on his goal of creating a new world.
Due to his royal upbringing, he grew up to be an arrogant character. However, he also views nobles as 'overprivileged parasites.' Lelouch's stoic personality and disinterest in others make him one of the most egotistical anime characters.
1) Light Yagami (Death Note)
Light is one of the most egotistical anime characters of all time. His god complex is portrayed in the opening visuals of the anime as well. Light doesn't spare any thoughts for romance. Even if he goes on dates, it's a calculated move to appear as a normal high schooler.
While it is true that being the owner of a death note changes one's personality, Light has always been portrayed as an egotistical character who firmly believes that he can singlehandedly get rid of every crime in the world. However, the more he uses his death note, the more egotistical he becomes, and his goal changes accordingly.
