While 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2 is gearing up for its premiere on January 12, 2025, tweets from the sequel's chief animation director, Akane Yano, suggest the series' future might be in jeopardy. The animator's cryptic tweets imply harsh working conditions at Bibury Animation Studio, which could be due to the series' tough scheduling.

Akane Yano mentioned that the "countdown to despair" had begun and that she had no free time. Additionally, the animator said that her tears wouldn't stop because she could not draw. While Yano-san hasn't directly mentioned it, her tweets imply immense pressure at Bibury Animation Studio, which could affect the production of 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2.

On January 6, 2025, Akane Yano, the chief animation director and the character designer at the Bibury Animation Studio for the upcoming 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2, made a series of tweets to describe her distress as an animator.

Her tweets saying that the "countdown to despair" has begun could be an indirect reference to the premiere of 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2 on January 12, 2025. In addition, Akane Yano mentioned her struggles to draw within the deadline. She also indirectly suggested that she doesn't get any free time as an animator.

"I want to be able to buy time from people who say they have free time," Akane Yano (@if_224) said.

Akane Yano's tweets imply harsh working conditions behind the production of 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2. Even though the animator hasn't taken Bibury Animation Studio's name directly, her struggles could be related to the studio's tight schedule.

Notably, 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2 was green-lit on December 24, 2023, after the first season's finale. Thus, the production studio had a year to work on the sequel. However, Akane Yano's comments implied that the series' production isn't completely done yet.

Such comments also echo the general sentiment of the animators working in the anime industry in Japan. For example, during the broadcast of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, many animators voiced their opinions on the inhuman working conditions at MAPPA.

Some animators hardly get personal space, as they are constantly forced to meet deadlines. In addition, many anime studios take on multiple projects simultaneously, even though they don't have a surplus of animators. This could often lead to a tighter schedule for a series.

In fact, this was why some episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, Attack on Titan season 4, and other titles might have been compromised. Recently, Danmachi season 5 went on a hiatus due to production issues. Later, J.C. Staff announced the series would return in Spring 2025. Other recent series, such as Uzumaki and Blue Lock season 2, also faced production issues.

Sometimes, a studio prepares every episode before the series' broadcast date. However, this only happens to a few series. Akane Yano's tweets suggest Bibury Animation Studio might have had some internal issues that delayed the production planning even though 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2 had a year for production. Now, fans can only hope the anime's production doesn't get immensely affected.

Conclusion

Akane Yano's emotional outburst on X may have highlighted internal issues at Bibury Animation Studio. Although the animator hasn't explicitly expressed this, it could lead to production trouble for the upcoming 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You season 2.
